This research project comprises two main components: a thesis entitled "A Critical Reflection on the Institutional System" and an artistic work named "de:manifestation." These elements constitute Irina Komissarova's Master's research in Scenography at the Norwegian Theatre Academy, conducted from 2022 to 2024.
In her thesis, Irina examines the intricate challenges within institutional frameworks, encompassing educational, theatrical, and artistic establishments. She integrates her professional experience as a female scenographer and set designer, leveraging insights gained from extensive collaborations with esteemed directors and theaters, to provide a nuanced analysis of these systems.
The artwork serves as a platform for developing innovative methodologies that aim to elevate the role of scenographers (and other performance artists) in theatrical leadership. Simultaneously, it provides a critical examination of the institutional framework within which these artists operate.
